On January 28, the screening of the film <Kim Dae-jung on the Road> commemorating the 100th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung’s birth was successfully screened at Sydney’s Top Ryde Theater, attracting nearly 150 audiences. The film attracted great attention not only from Korean but also from local student activists.
John Faoliu, one of the student activists in Australia, said, “President Kim Dae-jung’s persistence and resilience is truly impressive”, and added, “His principled leadership shines even in the face of any danger.”
Another student activist, Adisen Wright, said “<Kim Dae-jung on the Road> beautifully depicts the struggle of Koreans for democracy and the future, and I am in awe of President Kim Dae-jung’s victory which was not at all easy to achieve.” He also added, “the movie contains the hope that justice will spread widely not only in Korea but also across the world. I hope everyone sees this movie.”

The film <Kim Dae-jung on the Road> is a documentary that unfolds important moments in modern Korean history, such as the military coup, Yushin, and the Gwangju Democratisation Movement. It is interesting to note that the movie includes the December 12 military uprising, which was covered in <Seoul Spring>, a movie that was a great hit in Korea recently.

Screening is also scheduled for Brisbane in early March. More information can be found on the Brisbane Candlelight Action Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/brisbanecandleaction).
